Today in 1893 we have Van Helsing recommending a blood transfusion to help Lucy. The transfusion was a pretty cutting edge medical technique at the time (dangerous, too: blood types weren’t understood yet), and it fits in with the science vs. paranormal theme Stoker employs throughout, with Van Helsing using his doctor’s skills to combat the count’s supernatural attack.
Also, this is the first of several much longer posts we’ll be getting over the next few weeks. We’ll have plenty of the 1–3 paragraph posts, too, but here and there a few are chapter-length.
